The Opportunity

A fantastic opportunity to support autistic students to participate fully and succeed in their chosen courses of study. 

The position is open to candidates who are looking for part-time employment, 0.4 FTE (Full Time Equivalent) which is the equivalent to 2 days or 14 hours per week.  We are looking to meet candidates available for work from 0900 – 1700 on campus on a Friday plus one other day (preferably a Monday but can be negotiated).

 

Your skills and attributes for success

We are looking for an enthusiastic and dedicated individual with relevant experience of working with autistic adults within a one-to-one setting.

  • Educated to degree level in a professional relevant subject (e.g., health, social work, counselling).
  • Must have comprehensive training in adult autism, holding the requisite qualifications for Specialist Mentor – Autism Spectrum Conditions (Page 10 of DfE qualification and professional body membership requirements).
  • Substantial knowledge of issues affecting autistic students undertaking studies in Higher Education. 
  • Knowledge of curriculum delivery and forms of assessment, with experience of undertaking study skills tuition and other support functions for students in Higher Education. 
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, an awareness of boundaries and other professional and ethical issues as well as taking a neurodiversity affirming approach to student support are also essential attributes.
