Job Summary

The Michigan Youth Violence Prevention Center (MI-YVPC) is seeking a highly motivated and qualified candidate to provide project management support to a Center for Disease Control (CDC)-funded research center focused on youth gun violence prevention.  This position is based in Washington D.C., with some travel expected to Michigan for youth learning exchanges and program evaluation activities.  The selected candidate will coordinate implementation and outcome evaluations of the TRIGGER Project grassroots, youth-driven violence prevention program.  The selected candidate will play a key role in the design and delivery of implementation strategies (e.g., trainings, curriculum materials) to support program delivery.  Working in close collaboration with TRIGGER Project staff, the selected candidate will also support formation of Youth Advisory Board to engage youth leaders in cross-city learning exchanges and prevention campaign development.  Finally, the candidate will conduct community outreach to represent the MI-YVPC in Washington D.C.  We are seeking a candidate with excellent local knowledge of Washington, D.C., program evaluation experience, and a commitment to social justice and positive youth development.

What You`ll Do

The successful candidate will work closely with the research team and community partners on the following key tasks under the direction of the Center Manager:

Program Evaluation Support: 50%

Program Documentation

  • Manage documentation of the TRIGGER Project`s summer program and year-round prevention programming, including their Youth Advisory Board (YAB)
  • Document curriculum content, fidelity, and youth attendance
  • Assist with the development of processes, protocols, and instruments for program documentation
  • Attend program sessions, YAB meetings, and community events, as needed, to carry out program documentation tasks 
  • Provide additional technical assistance to the TRIGGER Project, as needed

Data Collection

  • Assist with the development of data collection instruments (e.g., surveys, interview guides)
  • Support recruitment and retention for youth surveys to evaluate youth satisfaction and behavioral outcomes related to program participation 
  • Organize and conduct qualitative interviews and focus groups to gather feedback on prevention programs from multiple stakeholders, including youth participants
  • Assist with the annual acquisition of Washington D.C.-based crime and arrest data

Data Management & Analysis

  • Advise on data management procedures and make and implement recommendations for process improvement
  • Code and analyze qualitative data from interviews and focus groups
  • Follow guidelines for appropriate data management and storage

Programmatic Support & Community Engagement: 40%

Youth Advisory Board

  • Work closely with TRIGGER Project staff to recruit, form and retain a Youth Advisory Board made up of DC-based youth leaders in gun violence prevention.  We expect the YAB to meeting bimonthly to advise the research, plan cross-city learning exchanges, assess violence prevention needs in the D.C. community, and implement prevention projects.  The selected candidate will support YAB recruitment, curriculum planning, and evaluation
  • Assist with planning, coordination, and management of learning exchange activities between youth in Washington D.C. and Muskegon, MI
  • Work in close partnership with Muskegon and TRIGGER staff to engage YAB members in planning cross-city prevention campaigns

Community Outreach

  • Represent the MI-YVPC in Washington D.C. by conducting outreach, attending meetings, and preparing and delivering community presentations
  • Ensure smooth coordination and communication with TRIGGER project staff, community partners, and the Youth Advisory Board

Administrative Support: 10%

Record Keeping and Reporting

  • Keep detailed records of all study activities and outputs in Washington D.C.
  • Aid in the preparation of regular performance reports to the CDC
  • Assist with preparing progress reports, manuscripts, and presentations 

Regulatory

  • Prepare and amend Institutional Review Board (IRB) applications to ensure study compliance

Skills You Have

Intermediate Level:  Master`s degree in public health, social work, social science, communications, or related field and 4-5 years of related professional experience

Associate Level: Bachelor`s degree in public health, social work, social science, communications, or related field and 1-3 years of related professional experience. Master`s preferred.

  • Familiarity with program evaluation methods and principles of ethical research 
  • Familiarity with implementation science methods for public health programs
  • Familiarity with qualitative and quantitative research methods 
  • Experience in organizational operations strongly preferred, including the ability to analyze and improve research processes and data management systems
  • Excellent local knowledge of Washington D.C. and capacity to build rapport with community partners and youth leaders
  • Ability to work independently while maintaining clear and consistent communication with the research team and community partners
  • Takes initiative to perform needed tasks within the identified scope of work
  • Demonstrates reliability and professionalism
  • Experienced with Microsoft Office programs (e.g., Word, Excel), Google Suite (e.g., Google Drive, Google Calendar), survey management software (e.g., Qualtrics) and comfortable learning new technologies

Modes of Work

Positions that are eligible for hybrid or mobile/remote work mode are at the discretion of the hiring department. Work agreements are reviewed annually at a minimum and are subject to change at any time, and for any reason, throughout the course of employment. Learn more about the .

This position will be based in Washington D.C. and will include a combination of remote and in-person work.  The selected candidate must be able to work in person for activities that require program documentation and evaluation, community outreach, and youth engagement.  This position will also require some travel to Michigan for youth learning exchange activities and to annual conferences or CDC meetings.

Underfill Statement

This position may be underfilled at a lower classification depending on the qualifications of the selected candidate.  The salary offered will be commensurate with the position level.  Two levels are possible: Intermediate and Associate.  The salary range is based on the demographic location for this position.

Intermediate Level: $64,978.80 - $72,000

Associate Level: $58,000 - $65,520

This position is term-limited for 2 years with the possibility of extension based on available funding and continued satisfactory work performance.
