Job Summary

This position reports to the Facility Manager for their assigned zone. The position is responsible for a wide variety of facility related tasks, including setups, breakdowns, grounds maintenance, snow removal, equipment operation and maintenance, event coverage and preparation, cleanup and furniture assembly. 

Responsibilities*

  • All duties and responsibilities included in the Athletic Facility Specialist I job description
  • Operate power equipment and machinery, including trucks, tractors, loaders, forklifts, scissor lifts, street sweepers, riding reel and rotary mowers, gang and slope mowers, mechanical seeders and tillers, power and hand fertilizing equipment and other motorized vehicles and equipment.
  • Remove ice and snow from walks, drives, parking lots, steps, ramps, structures, building entrances and athletic fields using snow plows, power brooms, blowers and blades, truck mounted salting and de-icing equipment, shovels, etc.
  • Maintain grounds and landscaped areas: mow, roll, irrigate, fertilize, cultivate, rake, hoe, sweep, spray and plant ground cover or grass areas. Plant, transplant, fertilize, cultivate, irrigate and seed perennial, biennial, and annual plant and shrubbery beds. Control and remove unwanted vegetation by hand removal and cultivation. Trim, prune, plant, spray, and groom trees, plants and shrubbery beds. Transport materials by wheelbarrow.
  • Prepare and apply selective and non-selective herbicides or fertilizers in properly calibrated proportions to lawns, athletic fields and flower or shrub beds, and right-of-way areas, including parking lots and sidewalks.
  • Program and operate automatic irrigation equipment and systems, including seasonal startup and winterization. Place and operate movable lawn irrigation systems as necessary. Conduct repairs to irrigation equipment and systems (i.e. fixing broken lines, nozzles, heads).
  • Operate, repair, maintain, lubricate and perform safety checks on grounds equipment, including utility vehicles, carts, lawnmowers, blowers, weed whips, edgers, rollers, groomers, brooms, etc. Disassemble, clean, sharpen and lubricate reel and rotary mower blades, hoes, shovels, pruning shears, and sprayers.
  • Install, lubricate and repair housekeeping and custodial equipment. Replace pulled or frayed cords, hoses, belts and brushes on vacuum cleaners, buffing machines and scrubbers.
  • Assemble, wall mount, install and secure equipment, furniture and fixtures, including desks, TV monitors, picture frames, graphics, etc.
  • Operate laundry equipment and ensure special fabrics (i.e. team uniforms) are properly cleaned and dried. Pick-up and deliver laundry using carts, hampers, trucks and liftgates.
  • Maintain and clean parking lots, bleachers, and grounds. Erect street and pedestrian barricades.
  • Set-up, take down, repair and maintain specialized athletic facility equipment, including, hoops, nets, goals, bases, pads, gymnastics apparatus, bulkheads, flags, etc., and non-athletic events, including tables, chairs, staging, floor covering, drapery, etc.
  • Set-up and preparation of athletic facilities and courts for competitions, practices, rentals or other events, including but not limited to tables, chairs, scoring equipment and timing systems, nets, goals, hoops, court markings, mats and other sport specific equipment.
  • Set-up and preparation of grass and artificial fields for competitions, practices, rentals or other events, including but not limited to mowing, painting, grooming, sweeping and watering.
  • Perform regular and pre-event facility checks, including lighting, toilets, sinks and other restroom fixtures, AED`s, fire extinguishers, eyewash stations and other building components for proper operation.
  • Load and unload trucks by hand or with pallet jack, toolcat or forklift.
  • Clean assigned facilities, areas of work and equipment. Collect, haul and dispose of refuse and debris.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain proper permits for forklifts and aerial lifts.
  • Coordinate the work of assigned assistants.
  • Receive and deliver Athletic Department mail/boxes as needed.
  • Repair and replace ceiling tiles which do not require fitting around electrical, life safety, fire suppression or plumbing components.
  • Repair, patch and paint drywall sections less than 24` x 24`.
  • Provide event support and coverage, including but not limited to responding to issues, failures, cleanup needs, equipment repairs, unclog toilets, urinals, sinks or floor drains and shut off water valves.
  • Operate and maintain therapy pools, including safety checks, measure and balance chemicals, dump and fill water in hot and cold plunge pools, underwater treadmill and other therapy or recovery pools.
  • Clean/disinfect nozzles and replace filters on drink dispensers and ice machines.
  • Replace light bulbs, lamps and lens covers in ceiling troffers, high bays, track lighting, recessed cans, wall mounted and other lighting fixtures.

Required Qualifications*

  • Ability to work evenings, nights and weekends. This position is designated as `special schedule` which means shift times and days worked each week will vary depending on seasons and business needs.
  • CPO Certification or ability to obtain within six months
  • Aerial Lift & Forklift Certification or ability to obtain within six months
  • Pesticide applicators license or ability to obtain within six months
  • At least two years of experience in a hospitality industry working in an athletic, hotel or convention facility environment.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to lead assigned assistants by providing clear directions.
  • Must be able to establish and maintain positive working relationships with all team members and customers.
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to effectively prioritize and manage changing demands.

Work Schedule

Monday - Friday 5:30 a.m - 2 pm, but flexible based on facility needs and event coverage. Subject to change based on Athletic Department business demand. Ability to work nights, evenings, weekends, and overtime. This position is pay grade 7.
